SPRING UPDATE

Posted by Faraji Starks on

As you may have noticed, we haven’t posted on our blog since the new year… but all for good reason. Because of you, those who love our products and our socially-driven mission, we have gained enough support to expand our chocolate and coffee production — which ultimately results in a greater social impact for our partners and farmers around the world. We would like to take this time to say, “thank you!” We have been humbled by all the support. Here's what we've been up to:

From Our Nursery: 7,500 More Trees Planted!

What was once your guilty pleasure now creates jobs for families in Cameroon. We are not only devoted to the art of craft chocolate and coffee but strive for the betterment of farmers and the environment. April is planting season and our team is about to plant 7,500 trees. We couldn't thank you enough for making this possible by shopping at MokaOrigins.com and helping spread the word about our initiative.

We've Gone Organic!

We have officially completed all of our certifications. Moka Origins is now:

  • USDA Organic certified
  • Non-GMO certified
  • Swiss Water Process Certified (decaf)
  • Rainforest Alliance Certified
  • Fair Trade USA Certified

You will start to see our certified line of products carrying these certification seals over the next couple of months. We take pride in carrying these certifications because we feel it represents the quality of our products and the intention behind our mission.

We Love Mom's

Our coffee and chocolate are now carried in Mom’s Organic Market grocery stores along the East Coast. This is the first big step towards greater distribution, which means more availability of our products. Our team has worked hard to scale up our batches which means more time spent behind the roaster, hand-sorting beans, and making sure all of our small batches of coffee and chocolate come out perfect every time. This is a huge step for us and we are extremely grateful to Mom’s Organic Market for partnering with us.

More Space For Making Chocolate

Big changes have been happening at our coffee roastery and chocolate factory. As our social impact broadens and our production needs start to grow, the space in which we work needs to grow as well. We made the leap from our three 10lbs chocolate grinders to one 100lb grinder. With this new addition, we can now make more chocolate than ever! This new grinder also needed more space to accommodate it, so we also added a new room to our factory. Additionally, we upgraded from a 7lb roaster to our new 30lb roaster, whom we lovingly call “Agni” (translates to fire!). This new roaster has made a huge difference in our ability to keep up with a greater demand but still allows us to pinpoint the accurate control we strive for in every batch.
